Dr. James Woodson, founder and CEO, CommuniCare Technology, talked about his experiences as an Emergency Physician in a large rural area and what inspired him to innovate. Dr. Woodson, who was recently honored by the Longview Chamber of Commerce as the 2013 Healthcare Professional of the year, began CommuniCare as a way to use mobile technology to revolutionize communication and care coordination in healthcare. During the demo presentations, Dr. Woodson presented his life-saving apps Stop Stemi and Stop Stroke, developed by [x]cube. Both apps are aimed at increasing the speed and efficiency of patient care by alerting and connecting the entire emergency care team and enabling sharing of vital patient data in real-time.

Enoch James, Head of Sales at [x]cube LABS, presented a quick overview of the state of the mHealth marketplace. According to James, EHR, CPOE, and Medication administration are some of the key applications that are increasingly adopted by healthcare organizations. Experts are predicting that the market size will increase to $26 billion in the next 5 years. While currently there are 97,000 health care apps available now, less than 100 have been approved by the FDA.

Chad Johnson of Health 2.0 reported on the Silicon Valley Health 2.0 Fall Conference, that took place Sept. 29-Oct. 1, providing a recap, tech trends and a quick peak at a technology demo. Three participants from the Fall 2013 Health Wildcatters class pitched their health care + mobile app ideas.

J.C. Adams, founder of Cloud 9, discussed Cloud 9’s goals of supporting mental health care through TeleHealth and Behavioral Analytics and the potential role mobile can play in mental health care.

Alin Cooperman, founder and CEO of MakeMyPlate, discussed the development of a personal nutrition keeper and the role of apps in shaping daily behavior.

Naveen Khan, founder and CEO of PT PAL, addressed the potential and therapeutic benefits of apps in self-care, injury prevention, and continuing therapies.

Stewart’s presentation broke down the elements of a successful game design. He argued that there has been a social and casual game revolution and contrasted the needs of players vs. developers. While step-by-step creating the components of a mock game, Stewart walked through the various pieces in the process considering the Fun Factor, Investment, Engagement, Virality, Monetization, and the Whole Package. In conclusion, Jeff touched on current and future game trends reframing games as a service industry responsive to consumers. Stewart is an award-winning game designer with over 13 years experience. He has worked with the big names such as Sega and Lucas Arts since 2006. Moreover, he continues to hone his social/mobile skills, bringing his experience in real time strategy, story and dialogue writing, as well as turn-based and action RPGs.

Our Dallas Design Studio gets a new address! After 2 years in the Dallas Design District, the team moved into a spacious studio near historic Deep Ellum, in the heart of Downtown Dallas. While moving to a new address requires lots of efforts in collecting your stuff, packing, un-packing and then putting all of it in the right place so as to re-create or better the old-office environment. But, we had great fun!!
